Nora's
Story

Nora

Hello, our family is from Gilroy, California. When I was pregnant with Nora at my 20-week ultrasound, we found out that she had extra fluid in her brain. They called it ventriculomegaly. Doctors also found other brain malformations, small optic nerves was one. Multiple doctors recommended termination. For some reason I always felt like Nora was going to be OK, not perfect but OK and that was OK with me. I knew I was fully capable of caring for her no matter the outcomes. Nora came home just as all my other kids did. Nora is my third child. Nora did show signs of weakness and was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Nora started therapies very early on and has a physical therapist, an occupational therapist and multiple doctors. Nora is sunshine and rainbows and always is a happy girl. Nora started walking unassisted at five years old. She is in 8th grade now with a full-time aide. She has a lot of academic challenges but is learning at her own pace. Over the summer we had a genetic test and found out she has TUBB3! It explains a lot. I still need to learn more. I hope to get more involved with TUBB3. But it has been a lot. She just had surgery last month for her tethered cord. She’s been through a lot. It’s been a lot her entire life. But she’s doing great and she’s absolutely wonderful.
